Summary of the Bouldin Creek Neighborhood Guide

Bouldin Creek is one of Austin’s oldest neighborhoods, going back to the turn of the twentieth century. The majority of development occurred throughout the 1920s and 1930s. There are many old residences in the neighborhood.

Bouldin Creek is now a peaceful, secure area where Austinites, particularly younger singles, may eat, shop, and enjoy nightlife and nature. Numerous small shops and eateries are located in the area. Additionally, it is ideally placed near downtown, the lakeside walk and bike route, Barton Creek, and Zilker Park.

Features

Bouldin Creek is an attractive neighborhood for a large number of Austin residents due to its handy location and nearby attractions. The area is densely packed with independent businesses, cafés, coffee shops, and restaurants next to South Congress Avenue’s primary retail sector.

The neighborhood’s central position puts it within walking distance of several of Austin’s main attractions. These include Lady Bird Lake’s parks and natural landscapes, the Barton Creek Greenbelt, and Zilker Park. Additionally, they have entertainment sites such as the Long Center for the Performing Arts, the Palmer Events Center and Butler Park, Auditorium Shores, and downtown Austin’s music, eating, and nightlife.

Despite its proximity to downtown, Bouldin Creek retains the tranquil and relative safety of a residential area where people may stroll or bike along the streets. It is not a neighborhood dense with children and huge families, but where students, artists, and hipsters congregate to enjoy the Austin lifestyle.

The area has its personality due to its lengthy history. For instance, the Green Pastures Restaurant is housed in the 1894 childhood home of renowned Austin activist John Henry Faulk.

Among the neighborhood, companies are the Soup Peddler, which delivers soups and entrees by bicycle. It was started by a former high-tech employee who traded up his cubicle for a bike and a three-wheeled cooler.

With multiple black churches and a sizable Hispanic population, the area preserves remnants of its old ethnic flavor. Residents vary in age from young professionals to elderly Austin hippies, with a higher than usual singles rate.
