Zilker Metropolitan Park is a recreational area in south Austin, Texas, located at the confluence of Barton Creek and the Colorado River. It is approximately 350 acres (142 hectares) and is entirely public property. It is named for the city’s 1917 land donor, Andrew Jackson Zilker. During the Great Depression of the 1930s, the area was turned into a park. Today, the park serves as a center for a variety of recreational activities and the walk and bike track around Lady Bird Lake. The park’s size can accommodate large-scale events such as the Austin City Limits Music Festival and the Zilker Park Kite Festival. In 1997, the park was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

With its proximity to open space and high-quality schools, this is a family-friendly community. However, the population is diverse, ranging from students to families to older citizens.
