GFCI Protected Outlets

GFCI Protected Outlet

A GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) outlet is an important safety installation for your home. These outlets prevent electrical shocks and house fires and are necessary in parts of the house that frequently get wet, like outdoor areas, kitchens, and bathrooms.

GFCI outlets detect incorrect flows of electrical current (like through water or a person) and completely switch off the electric power circuit when tripped. The outlets have a “reset” button that can be pressed once you have resolved the issue.

GFCI outlets should be tested once a month. Press the “test” button on the outlet and notice whether or not the power shuts off. If the power is still on, this indicates that the GFCI is malfunctioning and should be replaced right away.

GFCI outlets play a crucial role in protecting you, your family, and your home, and it is very important that they work properly. Older homes or homes that have been damaged may require some rewiring for the GFCI system to function as it should.
